Obama, a few minutes ago from a town hall meeting in Indiana (transcribed from a live broadcast on FOX News Channel, with help from my DVR):
We’ve got instability and terror in the Middle East that is brought on in part because we fund both sides of the fight. We are seeing rising oceans and record drought and spreading famine that could engulf our planet. And so the question is, how did we get to this point? Because if we’re going to solve the problem we’ve got to understand how we got here. Now, believe it or not, this is one of those times when I am going to agree with John McCain. Because he said a few weeks ago, and I quote, “our dangerous dependence on foreign oil has been thirty years in the making and was caused by the failure of politicians in Washington to think long term about the future of this country.” He’s absolutely right.
What he fails to mention is he was there for twenty-six of those thirty years.
John McCain started bringing an ad yesterday saying that Washington is broken. No kidding. It’s taken him twenty-six years to figure it out. But here’s the thing, Elkhart, I’ve got trouble squaring that statement with Senator McCain, that Washington is broken and that politicians have failed, with his statement a few months ago, that under George Bush, we had made, and I quote, “great progress economically over the past eight years”.
That was all I got, since that was as long as FOX News Channel cared to stick with it.
